A substantial share of mobile users in Japan are interested in Apple’s latest mobile phone offering, according to research. Fewer, but a solid share, have plans to purchase one.
Mobile Marketing Data Lab found in September 2015 that more than two in five mobile phone users in Japan were at least somewhat interested in in the iPhone 6s, the model released that month. Purchase intent was lower, but still substantial: 12.6% were very interested in buying one, and another 17.8% were somewhat interested.
The 6s itself was the most popular model among those who were at least somewhat interested in purchasing a new Apple smartphone. Nearly half preferred it to the larger iPhone 6s Plus or the smaller iPhone 6c.
But most mobile users who said they might buy a new iPhone were in no rush. Around 15% would buy it on the day of launch, but a large plurality planned to wait up to six months for their upgrade. Most respondents also had no plans to preorder.
